SVP & Chief Technology Officer
John Avenson enters his 33rd season with the Minnesota Twins in 2026 and has served as Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer since January 2021. He previously held roles as Vice President and Director of Baseball IS/Network.
Avenson leads all organizational technology strategy and operations, overseeing solutions that support baseball performance, business operations, broadcast systems, and fan experience. His team delivers innovative technology across Target Field, the Lee Health Sports Complex, and the Twins’ Dominican Republic Development Academy.
He has been recognized as CIO of the Year by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal (2013) and the Minnesota CIO ORBIE Awards (2018). His work with the Large Venue Tech Collective earned a 2021 Tekne Award, and his Baseball Systems group won the 2024 Tekne Award for Outstanding Achievements in Data Analytics. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Minnesota CIO Leadership Association.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Persian Gulf War, Avenson supported multiple fixed wing squadrons in the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. He holds a Computer Science degree from the University of Minnesota and lives in Minnetonka, MN, with his family.
