Telecommunications Specialist
John Alden is the Chief of the Spectrum Affairs and Information Division (SAID) of the Office of Spectrum Management (OSM) at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration NTIA). He supervises a staff of spectrum engineers and legal and communications specialists who support the development of spectrum regulatory positions and policy recommendations. SAID manages data and information about Federal Government spectrum uses, analyzes that information, and produces reports, speeches, blogs and presentations to support leaders’ decision-making and public awareness of spectrum issues. Mr. Alden has 30 years of experience as a civil servant, contractor, consultant and trade press reporter, developing his expertise in telecommunications policy issues, with a concentration on spectrum and wireless technologies. He served on the core staffs of three U.S. delegations to World Radiocommunication Conferences between 2003 and 2015, supporting the Head of Delegation as Special Assistant at WRC-15. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Georgia and The American University in Washington, DC.
