Sustainability is an important factor in today’s mobile networks both from the absolute amount of power needed and the impact of the overall supply, design, and installation cycle. As wireless networks increase in both geographic coverage and capacity, the amount of electrical power needed to run the equipment increases, even though the amount of power per bit transmitted is declining, especially in 5G networks. Improving power efficiency not only reduces the environmental impact but also reduces the cost of network operation. And from a network life cycle perspective, sustainability becomes important at each stage from design and planning to construction and operation. All of these factors will be considered and discussed in this industry panel that explores all facets of sustainability.
